Enjeux et impacts liés à la mise en place d'un transport électrique autonome au QuébecImpacts des véhicules autonomes électriques sur l'utilisation du sol et les activités urbaines

Four reports produced in the course of a research project concerning the integration of autonomous electric vehicles in urban settings are now available.

Soumaya Cherkaoui and Nathalie Drouin co-directed a study carried out in collaboration with the City of Montreal and the Autorité régionale de transport métropolitain (ARTM, Metropolitan Regional Transportation Authority). The researchers and their team investigated the impacts of the integration of autonomous electric vehicles on the urban road system and related issues.

Future transformations

This study, which concerns the Montreal metropolitan area, sheds light on how urban planning, road infrastructure and citizens’ mobility habits will be transformed by the integration of this kind of vehicle.

Recommendations

This study presents two scenarios for the integration of autonomous electric vehicles in the Montreal metropolitan area. It also provides a set of specific recommendations intended to support decision-making by public stakeholders. These recommendations concern various topics such as urban spaces, charging stations, and municipal and metropolitan policies governing infrastructure and mobility.
