PRESENTATION

This project focuses on the analysis of economic, environmental, and social impacts of major construction projects. The team from Polytechnique Montréal and Pomerleau will conduct a review of the models, process, tools, innovations, as well as the life cycle assessment (LCA) practices that support the development of a sustainable governance for megaprojects in built environment.

Research project title:

The governance of our built environment towards sustainability through life cycle assessment: Knowledge synthesis

This knowledge synthesis received funding from KHEOPS Knowledge synthesis partnership program.

 Context

The built environment is amongst the industrial sectors that generates the most waste worldwide. Therefore, its stakeholders have a growing interest in developing sustainable development strategies, such as life cycle assessment (LCA), to reduce the environmental impact of major projects. LCA takes into consideration the environmental impacts of a project from its conception through its end of life. In an era where respect for the physical and social environments are increasingly important, LCA appears as a tool with a high potential.
